Objective: Differentiating between intent and impact of words and actions, recognizing a micro-aggression expressed by yourself and others

Project Components:

  • Workshop Preparation + Co-work with Faculty Sponsor (18 hours)

  • Workshop Check-in (2 hours)

  • Workshop Delivery (11 hours)

  • Post Workshop meetings and Referrals (9 hours)

Curricula For College Students

Purdue University ENGR 180: Minority Engineering Seminar

The semester-long course focused on the professional and academic development of Engineering Freshmen (Fall 2017 and 2018)

Class Size: 35 (2017), 40 (2018)

Objectives: Teach students basic human-centered design principles and facilitate community-engaged projects.

Detroit Design 2067

Annual Week-long Immersion Program for High School Juniors and Seniors (2018-2021)

Partner & Institution: Detroit 67 Project, Detroit Historical Museum

Class Size: 11 (2018), 10 (2019), 4 (2020), 8 (2021)

Objectives: Connect students with the History of Detroit via Design theory and Community Engagement

Activities:

  • Guided Discussions on design, historical perspectives, language, power, and problem-solving

  • Cultural Hackathon (Now Called “Cultural Design Marathon”)

Curricula For Teens

Detroit Teen Summit with Community Development Advocates of Detroit

Project Dates: November - December 2021

Objectives:

  • Engage youth around topics of advocacy and self-care

  • Demonstrate the presence, use and benefits of student voice/leadership

  • Inspire further Youth Engagement with CDAD + Partnering Organizations

Project Components:

  • Meet with Partner to Establish Project Scope, Progress and Needs (1 hour)

  • Synthesize Project Partner Discussion into Scope of Work for Consultant Engagement (1 hour)

  • Develop Draft Run of Show for Virtual Event for Project Partner to modify with Planning Committee (1 hour)

  • Project Partner conversation about Committee edits, concerns and next steps (1 hour)

  • Facilitation Planning meeting with the whole team (1 hour)

  • Facilitation Planning with Student Partner (1 hour)

  • Actual Event Facilitation (5 hours)

Professional Development Series with Girls Group

Project Dates: February - March 2021

Objective: Develop an engaging Virtual Presentation for Mind, Body and Soul Program around the following topics:

  • Community Engagement Tips, Patriarchy, Gender Norms

  • Interview Skills

  • Storytelling and Failure

Project Components:

  • Presentation Development (3 hours)

  • Presentation Delivery (3 hours over 1 month)
